Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2021 with apprentice-led sessions!

To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2021, we delivered a series of 8 online sessions.

Sessions gave students from our partnership schools practical advice about the apprenticeship route, and offering them the opportunity to engage with real apprentices within the construction and built environment industry and have their questions answered live!

At Construction Youth Trust we are committed to supporting young people in finding the career path that is right for them. Apprenticeships are a fantastic option for young people that want to earn while they learn, gaining valuable workplace experience alongside their studies.

Lots of the young people we engage with, as well as their parents and teachers, share common misconceptions about apprenticeships or are unaware of the opportunities they present, meaning they don’t view them as a viable route to achieving higher level qualifications or rewarding careers.

Our Finding & Applying for Apprenticeships session sheds light on how to go about finding roles to apply for, and gives some top tips on the application process from professionals that are only a few steps ahead of our young people on their career journey, and have just been through the process themselves.

“One of the things I found the most useful and did not know about was the information about the Institute of apprenticeships. I did what they showed us and copied and pasted an apprenticeship standard I was interested in and found a role I applied for.”

In our Apprenticeships Q&A session, young people hear from real-life young apprentices about the realities of day-to-day life as an apprentice. Seeing relatable role models flourishing in apprenticeship roles is a really effective way of inspiring our young people, and helping them to discover the amazing benefits an apprenticeship can offer.

We look forward to continuing to champion the apprenticeship route in the work we do, giving the young people we work with the opportunity to benefit from this fantastic route into the world of work.
