David Bucknall, Chairman of the West Midlands Centre for Constructing Excellence (WMCCE), presented a cheque for £2,710 to the charity Construction Youth Trust (CYT) earlier this month. The money was raised at the recent Celebrating Construction 2010 (CC10) event in Birmingham, co-hosted by the Birmingham City Council’s Building Consultancy service, the Chartered Institute of Building’s (CIOB) and WMCCE. This event was attended by almost 800 professionals.
Celebrating Construction is an annual showcase and awards ceremony that provides recognition of the professionalism, excellence and innovation that lies at the heart of the West Midlands construction industry. This year’s event saw the launch of WMCCE’s Best Practice campaign.
David Bucknall said “the Construction Youth Trust is the charity of choice for WMCCE as it embraces all of our fundamental principles. We hope to give further support to this worthwhile organisation over the next few years”.
The CYT support young people whose journey to work can be challenging due to barriers relating to their financial circumstances, lack of awareness of opportunities in the industry, low self-esteem, gender or ethnicity.
Christine Townley, Director of the CYT said "We would like to thank WMCCE for making the Trust "Charity of the Night" at the Celebrating Construction Event in April. The money will be used to help the Trust's West Midlands based young offender programme, and to also implement Budding Brunels in the region - a popular programme aimed at exciting and informing pupils in post 16 education about the engineering and building professions.
