Our Kent based young people are planning for their futures!

We facilitated a 2 week programme in Kent funded by BBC Children in Need, aiming to support 12 local young people in exploring their career options, raising their aspirations and developing their confidence!

Throughout this employer-led programme, we hosted a massive 38 industry volunteers from a number of leading organisations who worked alongside the young people, offering them a unique insight into the industry and acting as role models for our budding construction professionals. Our professionals from CITB, Balfour Beatty, Walker Construction, Skanska, Gallagher Group, Countryside Properties, Bell Group, Bilton & Johnson, Joe Brennan Training and North Kent College were all present to offer their expertise. Over the programme, the young people took part in a diverse range of practical and employability sessions, where they had the opportunity to try out new and exciting roles in the construction and built environment sector whether it be electrical work, tiling, carpentry and a whole host of other trades. These ‘have a go’ practical sessions encouraged the young people to think about their next steps and the important career decisions they will be making.

“The whole course has been amazing. I didn’t have a CV before this, but now learning what I’ve learnt, I’ve managed to make one”

A standout moment of the programme was the careers networking session where our young people had the opportunity to broaden their network, connect with local employers and be inspired. The volunteers were amazed at the participants’ passion, drive and desire to learn more. It was wonderful to collaborate with the construction industry in inspiring the next generation of talent!

“Thank you so much for inviting us to take part in the recent North Kent community programme. Both our Chairman Steve Walker and I thoroughly enjoyed it and were blown away by all the student's enthusiasm and passion for construction. It was a real breath of fresh air!’ - Charlotte Watts, Business Development Manager, Walker Construction

We aim to give young people an encompassing view of the construction industry and the opportunities in it, so that they are able to make informed decisions about their next steps. After finishing the programme, many of the participants had a clearer idea of the type of apprenticeships they are interested in pursuing and we can’t wait to keep you updated with their future successes!
