January has been a challenging month for schools, with the latest COVID-19 guidelines meaning it is more important than ever to find ways to engage with students remotely.
To help support schools at this time, we have been running a series of fun and informative online sessions that have been open to students from all of our partnership schools!
We’ve had a fantastic response to the sessions, all of which have been supported by construction professionals who were able to give a first-hand account of the realities of their role to help inspire our young people about this dynamic industry.
Our Introduction to Construction Careers and Q&A session gives students the chance to ask live questions to industry volunteers, debunking common stereotypes surrounding construction and introducing them to the huge range of opportunities available.
Through our Presentation and Interview Skills sessions students build their soft skills to help them stand out to employers, whilst the Carbon Challenge and Sustainable Design Challenge link curriculum learning to real life construction careers that incorporate the environment – some of which students might not have considered or heard of before.
“It was really good and I learnt so much about how to write a CV. The session linked many of my subjects to my future career and I learned more about how to develop my skills and why they are important. As a result of this session, I will apply and participate in more opportunities like this.” - student
We will also be running a series of apprenticeship-focussed sessions to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2021 in February, giving students practical advice and top tips about the apprenticeship route and the application process.
At this difficult time, we will continue to adapt our support in schools to best suit the needs of students and teachers, offering a range of exciting and engaging sessions that are able to be delivered both online and face-to-face!
