Students at Leigh UTC are supporting their local community through a practical construction project and volunteering!

Year 11 students spent the day honing their carpentry skills by building a bench from scratch. They have decided to make a positive impact on their local community by donating the finished product to a local residential home!

The practical activity gives students the chance to engage in a day-long practical construction project developing their team work skills whilst discovering more about industry roles along the way. Two Taylor Wimpey apprentices were on-hand to give practical support and talk to the young people about the different possible routes into a construction career.

Our industry volunteers were really impressed with this group of young people, who demonstrated dedication to the task at hand and willingness to learn. The improvement in their practical skills by the end of the project in just one day was remarkable!

We’re so impressed that these young men have taken this opportunity as a chance to give something back to their local community. They will not only be handing over the fruits of their labour to a local elderly person’s home, but have also offered their services as volunteers to help tidy up the garden as well!
