34 service leavers joined the latest BuildForce online chat over three hours posing a range of questions about the industry to our panel of experts. Hosted by the BuildForce team, members of the expert panel included former service-leavers who have succeeded in the industry and were on-hand to offer advice on the best routes into construction. Employers were also present to offer their advice on what the industry is looking for.
The BuildForce online chat was supported by the Career Transistion Partnership (CTP) whose Live Chat facility links Service Leavers with potential employers and is available to service leavers through the Employer Focus page on the CTP website.
The Latest BuildForce Success Story
Philip served 22 years as a Clerk of Works in the Royal Engineers. He joined BuildForce through the CTP and attended our event in Northolt with Carillion at Battersea, following that he attended our three day training event where he received his CSCS card.
Philip carried out two placements with BuildForce, one with Lend Lease and one with Carillion, where he focused on quality assurance and project management. “Both placements were useful, the first more as an insight into the rail industry and the second into civil construction. The second placement gave me productive work with regard to ongoing projects so the company got some benefit as well.”
Philip has since been granted a job with Lend Lease as a Quality Assurance Manager and is commencing in the following weeks.
“Buildforce have opened a door to civilian placements with companies that are interested in taking service leavers which would have otherwise been very difficult to open and possibly not available.”
