Catching up with Nelson, 2 years on.

Nelson found out about Construction Youth Trust when our team came to his school in 2017 to give a presentation about the wide range of opportunities available in the construction and built environment sector.

When he came to us he was already enthusiastic about design and had an interest in Architecture as a career, but he wanted to learn more and develop the skills necessary to pursue this passion.

“I would like to use this chance to say a massive thank you to Construction Youth Trust as they have supported me continuously throughout the 2 year period that I have known them.”

Nelson took part in one of our three day employer-led Budding Brunels courses that year, which give participating young people an immersive insight into the world of work. Due to his interest and ability in design, he particularly relished the portion of the course which saw participants design small building models and present these ideas to an industry panel. Nelson has since told us that this activity helped prepare him for his university work as he is required to present at the end of each term.

After he completed the Budding Brunels course, Nelson continued to work closely with us. He was incredibly motivated, wanting to gain lots of experience in industry, and with our help secured two stints of work experience in 2018 and 2019 with Allford Hall Monaghan Morris Architects and Make Architects. We are now proud to say that Nelson is currently in his second year at the University of Portsmouth, studying architecture!
