Over the last 5 years, Jaime has also been undertaking a distance learning degree in Construction Management, fully self-funded. Elizabeth’s resolve to recuperate and return to work was subsequently recognised by her company with a performance award for her determination to return to a full contribution at work.

Elizabeth helped set up the Thames Tideway Tunnel Women in Construction Forum which aims to use an existing infrastructure project to radically improve the gender diversity of the construction industry. They work on practical ways to increase the number of women in the workforce.

Elizabeth is also a STEM ambassador, an active member of her company's Junior and Mid level Professional (JuMP) network to support and develop junior staff within the company. Outside work, Elizabeth recently completed a 100 mile walk around the Isle of Man to raise over £6,000 for Spinal Research as a thank you to the medical specialists who helped her recover from her broken back.

Katie Tarsey - Rise Management Consultant

Katie is a Project Manager for RISE Management Consulting. She left school aged 16 and trained to become a beauty therapist before joining Mace as a receptionist with no initial intention of pursuing a career in construction.

Whilst at Mace, Katie started to learn about the industry and was later promoted to Senior Project Officer on the delivery of the Hertfordshire Building Schools for the Future programme. When the Programme Director moved to Croydon Council, Katie successfully applied for a role as an Assistant Project Manager and had to undertake a 4 hour daily commute for this new role.

In order to further her career, Katie undertook a construction-related degree to support her role and expand her understanding of the subject. She secured a place for a BSc in Construction Management at University of Westminster and funded the course by herself.

At Rise, Katie acts as a mentor for colleagues who, like her, may not have followed the conventional route into Project Management. She provides support on a daily basis, assisting with reviewing documents and providing guidance on how to approach work and academic matters.

More recently Nazma has project managed the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion project which won an NLA award in 2013 and she is currently managing a £22m apart/hotel project on the Southbank.
