Highly Commended - Victoria Turner, United House

Watch this video of awards judge Andrew Link explaining why Victoria is highly commended for Construction Delivery.

Judges comments:

“Victoria demonstrated passion and enthusiasm during her presentation. This is no doubt part of the reason as to how she has managed to break an industry norm on the projects she delivers by encouraging more women to join in.

As the first graduate within United House’s programme Victoria appears to be contributing to a culture of change and inclusion which is great not just for her and United house but for the industry as a whole.”

Design and Architecture

Winner - Jordan Jones, AECOM

Watch a video of Lynne Sullivan, awards judge on why we chose Jordan as our Design and Architecture winner.

Judges comments:

“Jordan was a stand-out winner who showed excellent specialist technical, communication skills and a talent for innovation. His journey from a broken family background through education and work placements to full-time employment is an inspiration to the younger generation which often find barriers to entry in the world of consultancy. He overcame challenges through determination, dedication and an enquiring mind that seeks to continually develop his skills. He persevered despite the odds and is now working as a specialist in a department of an international multi-disciplinary consultancy. He has supported others in his quest for success and will be a good role model for those from similar circumstances.”

Very mature in terms of understanding the industry and the challenges it faces in attracting and retaining women and talent in general. Incredibly analytical. A real champion for the industry and a real change agent.”

“I believe Victoria Martin to be an exceptional candidate for this award. She has an excellent understanding of the challenges and opportunities that lie within the scope of Structural Engineering.”

Judges comments:

“Brett was totally inspirational, the hardship he had overcome, the passion and dedication he had shown to pursue his path into gaining a construction qualification was truly remarkable. Brett is charismatic, warm and has a zeal for construction, family and life that sweeps you away. Truly humbling.”

Project Management

Harriet Bower, Balfour Beatty

Watch this video of Assad Maqbool, awards judge on why we chose Harriet as winner of the Project Management category.

Judges comments:

“Harriet's enthusiasm and dedication to her role as bid manager for Balfour Beatty is obvious in meeting and speaking to her. She has achieved an extraordinary amount given her severe dyslexia and her difficulties with this have clearly only made her more determined to work hard and succeed in a field where her learning difficulties impact directly. She was also keen to link her on-site experience to her bid management and to integrate her work with the delivery team.

Her charming personality also came across in her interview and she talked with genuine care about her roles organising her company's volunteering programme, delivering a talk to her old school, and mentoring a pupil from that school.”

Surveying

Winner - Jonathon Baylie, VINCI Construction UK

Watch this video of Simon Johnson, awards judge on why we chose Jonathon as winner of the Surveying category.

Judges comments:

“Jonathan’s passion for construction is inspiring. He clearly has boundless energy, which he funnels in the right direction.  His enthusiasm is infectious and he clearly has the ability to inspire others. I have no doubt that he could be a powerful advocate for the industry amongst the young. Whilst having a broad range of interests, it’s good to see that he is also very focussed on the day job – he is obviously a conscientious, hard working individual, with an eye for the detail and a strong desire to be the best at what he does.

Highly Commended  - Mohammed Usman Shah, Costain

“Mohammed really impressed the panel. He has shown great determination to succeed and great loyalty to those who support him. He is a natural innovator and is building a unique role within Costain.”

“An extremely dynamic individual, driven by a passion for the industry and a burning desire to succeed.  An absolute self starter, with the ability to think laterally and well outside the boundaries that constrain most of us Quantity Surveyors! Definitely one to watch for the future.”
